《鍵盤音楽史：現代》 48(+2)人目の作曲家は、ピーター・シーボーン（Peter Seabourne, 英, 1960-）。
少し前にリフシッツのアルバム『トッカータとファンタジア』（バッハとシーボーンの曲を織り交ぜたもの）で初めて知った作曲家である。"Steps" というピアノ曲のシリーズを手がけている。
ピーター・シーボーンは、1960年英国生まれ。Clare College, Cambridge で Robin Holloway に、University of York で David Blake に師事する。
Benjamin Britten Prize などいくつかの賞を受賞するなど成功を収めつつあったが、1989年（29歳）ごろ、自分の作品だけでなくその当時の音楽世界（the wider contemporary music world）を嫌いになったことで、作曲から遠ざかる。
12年後の 2001年、友人のピアニスト Michael Bell からの呼びかけにより、再び作曲の筆を取ることとなり、以来 "STEPS" というピアノ小品のシリーズなどを手がけている。
主な作品には、6つの交響曲、7つの協奏曲（3つのピアノ協奏曲を含む）、そしてライフワークとも言えるピアノ作品 "STEPS" は現在 Volume 9 まで作られている。
「現代音楽」界からは一定の距離を置いているが、それでも多くの受賞や委嘱を受けており、リリースされた CD も10数枚にのぼる。世界各地での演奏機会も増えているようだ。
現在、Lincolnshire 在住。
「コンテンポラリー音楽」の「新規性」を求める風潮には懐疑的で、自分の作品に対しては次のようなコメントをしている。
"[My work] has to do with one thing only... making a subject better from its intrinsic nature."
"My sensibility is Romantic rather than Classical. For me both emotional drive and a sense of free, organic growth are vital. I am with Mahler: music should contain all of life! My work is quite traditional in terms of genre, motif, development and perhaps also formal structures."
"One commentator said that I wilfully ignored recent stylistic trends, yet sounded distinctively modern. I hope so…."

シーボーンは、「新規性」を優先する「現代音楽」の潮流（というものがあるかどうかも疑問だが…）には無関心で、ある意味「自分の感性」だけを大事にしていると言ってもいいかも知れない。
上の最後の文の、ある評論家の言葉が面白い。「意識して最近のトレンドを無視しているが、その作品には『現代性』が感じられる」
ピアノ作品を聴いた私の感想もこれに近い。間違いなく「現代性」が感じられると思う。そのすべてが私の感性に響いてくる訳ではないが、新しい音楽に対する期待感を感じる ♪
